They locate graves with human remains in central Mexico

MEXICO CITY (HPD) — At least two clandestine graves with human remains have been found in a region of central Mexico considered the most violent in the country, state authorities reported Tuesday.

The finding was recorded in the central municipality of Irapuato, in the state of Guanajuato, where after reviewing two of nine places, human remains were found, the state Attorney General’s Office said in a statement. He added that the remains were transferred to the Forensic Medical Service and the Persons Identification Unit of the Criminal Investigation Agency for their study.

The location of the graves occurred days after the vicil group “Hasta Encontrarte”, which is looking for disappeared persons in Guanajuato, reported the discovery of some 41 bags with human remains in Irapuato.

Hundreds of volunteer teams, made up of relatives and activists, operate in Mexico looking for the more than 100,000 disappeared in the country.

Local media reported that the graves managed to be located after local residents reported in anonymous calls to the police and “Until You Find You” that they had seen a dog carrying human remains. Authorities did not confirm that information.

Guanajuato is one of the six states, along with Michoacán, Baja California, the State of Mexico, Jalisco and Chihuahua, that account for half of the country’s homicides.
