KAMPALA, Uganda (HPD) — Eleven people, including children, have died in a fire at a school in a rural community outside the Ugandan capital, Kampala, a police official said Tuesday.
The fire, which broke out overnight, occurred at a school for the blind in Mukono district, said police spokesman Luke Owoyesigire, who did not provide further details.
School fires have been a concern for education authorities in the East African country.
Two student dormitories at a prominent boarding school in Kampala were destroyed in separate incidents in 2020, resulting in no injuries.
In 2008, 19 students died in a night fire at a boarding school for primary students near the capital in 2008.
