Helicopter falls in Norway, with 2 dead, 1 injured

HELSINKI (HPD) — A sightseeing helicopter crashed in Norway on Tuesday. The two passengers died and the pilot suffered serious injuries, authorities said.

The passengers are a Norwegian man and a woman, both in their 60s. The pilot was found alive at the crash site outside the town of Verdal and taken to a hospital in Trondheim.

A dog that was in the helicopter survived and was taken to a veterinarian, broadcaster NRK reported.

According to local press, the helicopter went down in a field outside a built-up area, and in dense fog after several unsuccessful attempts to land.

Forensic technicians together with the Air Accident Investigations Board tried to determine the cause of the accident.

The type and model of the helicopter were not disclosed.

According to the VG newspaper, the aircraft belongs to the service provider Midtnorsk Helikopterservice AS., which offers tourist flights through the picturesque mountainous area in the center of the country.
