MOGADISHU, Somalia (HPD) — At least five people were killed and 11 wounded Saturday night when a suicide bomber detonated his explosives outside the main gate of a military training camp in Mogadishu, military officials in Somalia said.
The extremist group Al Shabab claimed responsibility for the attack on the compound, which has suffered other attacks in the past.
The assailant pretended to be a recruit at the General Dhaga-Badan training camp in Wadajir district, said General Odawa Yusuf, head of Somalia’s defensive forces.
“There were some deaths from both civilians walking down the street and recruits,” a military official, Abdirahman Ali, told The Associated Press.
The complex was located near a large Turkish military base in Somalia.
