DALLAS (HPD) — Two Dallas hospital employees were killed in a shooting inside the hospital Saturday and the suspect was shot by police, authorities said.
The shooting happened around 11 a.m. inside the Methodist Health System, according to hospital spokesman Ryan Owens.
“A Methodist Health System police officer arrived on scene, confronted the suspect and fired his weapon at the suspect, injuring him,” Owens said in a statement.
The names of the victims and their positions in the hospital have not yet been released.
The hospital system said in a statement that it was mourning the deaths.
“The Methodist Health System Family is heartbroken by the loss of two of our beloved team members,” according to the statement attributed to system leadership. “Our entire organization is mourning this unimaginable tragedy.”
The suspect, whose name has also not been released, was taken to another hospital in undisclosed condition and in police custody, Owens added.
Dallas police referred questions to hospital police, who did not return phone calls seeking comment on the matter.
The incident follows the shooting at a hospital in September in Little Rock, Arkansas, in which one visitor was killed, and another in June in Tulsa, Oklahoma, which left four dead.
