British Navy seizes $28 million worth of cocaine in the Caribbean

SAN JUAN (HPD) — British authorities announced Friday they have seized more than 400 kilograms (880 pounds) of cocaine from a boat in Caribbean waters.

The Royal Navy said three people were detained following a “tense manhunt” near the Dominican Republic in an operation that began Thursday night. He reported that the narcotic has an estimated value of $28 million (£24 million).

Authorities said a team of artillerymen scuttled the boat, which they believe had left South America on a common route often followed by smugglers.

It was the second large seizure reported this week. On Wednesday, the US Coast Guard announced it had seized $26 million worth of cocaine near Puerto Rico.
