PESHAWAR, Pakistan (HPD) — Nine members of a family, eight of them siblings, were killed Sunday morning in northern Pakistan when the roof of a mud-and-wood house collapsed.
Four girls, four boys and their mother were killed in the town of Chilas, in the Gilgit Baltistan region, police officer Imtiaz Khan said. The father, a waiter in a restaurant, was working when the incident occurred.
Neighbors who heard the collapse ran to the house but were unable to rescue the family. The deceased siblings were between two and 12 years old.
Such incidents are not unusual in Pakistan, where security enforcement is patchy and many people live in flimsy structures due to lack of financial resources.
